Ideal Weight Calculator
Estimate your ideal body weight from height and sex using the Devine and Robinson formulas. Free, metric and imperial, results in kg and lb.
| Devine, in pounds | 156 lb |
|---|---|
| Robinson formula | 69 kg (152 lb) |
These 1970sโ80s clinical formulas estimate a reference weight from height and sex alone โ they ignore frame size and muscle. A healthy range (not a single number) is more realistic; see the BMI calculator.
โ๏ธ This is an educational estimate, not medical advice. Formulas are population averages and can't account for your full health picture โ talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before making decisions about diet, weight or training.
How this calculator works
The Devine formula (1974) starts from a base weight at 5 ft and adds 2.3 kg per inch above it โ 50 kg for men, 45.5 kg for women. The Robinson formula (1983) uses a base of 52 kg (men) or 49 kg (women) plus 1.9 kg (men) or 1.7 kg (women) per inch over 5 ft.
These formulas were built for medication dosing, not fitness goals, and they only use height and sex. A healthy weight is a range, not a single number โ cross-check with the BMI calculator.
