How this calculator works

Basal Metabolic Rate is the energy your body uses at complete rest. The Mifflin-St Jeor equation — the most accurate of the common formulas — is 10 × weight(kg) + 6.25 × height(cm) − 5 × age, then + 5 for men or − 161 for women.

BMR is only part of the picture — digestion and daily movement burn more on top of it. Multiply BMR by an activity factor (see the TDEE calculator) to estimate what you actually need to eat.
